What's Happening Online in the Era of Social Distancing

Things are changing rapidly. In truly heartbreaking ways, I’ve watched business owners who have put their heart and soul into their work come to a complete standstill.

But, I have also seen the opposite: live yoga classes drawing hundreds of members through a private Facebook group, drinks and tips with bartenders via Zoom, video visits to the aquarium on their website, a local restaurant raising $70,000 (yes SEVENTY!) in 6 hours on Instagram.

If people didn’t follow the businesses they love on social media before, you better bet they are now. In the past two weeks, I’ve found myself searching for my favorite places online to see what they are doing and how I can help time and time again. When I see a post sharing what they are doing during this time and how they are feeling, I instantly feel more connected to them.

It’s been quite astonishing to see the way things are changing and how this will truly change the entire world! How many businesses will see the success of running things from home and ditch their offices forever? How many will see the amount of business they can do online and have an entirely new stream of revenue to continue long after this is over?

Our businesses CAN survive these tough times. I don’t think this was an event any of us could have foreseen. But we’re going to be here a bit longer, so what are you doing to make sure your business not only survives- but thrives?
